Terms of service

What Ursa is, what it is not, and what you agree to by using it. The short version is at the top.

The short version

Ursa answers questions about EBHS using the school's published pages, and cites where each answer came from. It is a starting point, not an authority.

  • Ursa can be wrong. Confirm anything that affects your schedule, graduation, or applications with an actual EBHS counselor.
  • Ursa is not a counselor and is not therapy, medical advice, or legal advice.
  • Ursa is not an emergency service. In a crisis, call or text 988, or call 911.
  • Ursa is not affiliated with East Brunswick High School. It is an independent student project.

Using Ursa means you accept the rest of this page.

1. Agreement

These terms are between you and the individual student developer who operates Ursa. By using Ursa, you agree to them. If you do not agree, please do not use it.

Ursa is a personal project, not a company and not a school program.

2. Who may use Ursa

You may use Ursa if you are at least 13 years old and you sign in with an approved school email address, or with an address that has been explicitly added for testing.

If you are under 18, you should have your parent or guardian read these terms and the privacy policy with you.

Do not create an account for someone else, and do not share your account.

3. What Ursa is

Ursa retrieves passages from EBHS's published web pages and uploaded school documents, and uses an AI model to answer your question from those passages, with citations back to the source.

It is designed not to answer from general knowledge. When it has nothing relevant, it is supposed to say so and point you to a counselor rather than guess.

4. What Ursa is not

Ursa is not a school counselor, and it is not a substitute for one. It does not know your transcript, your credits, your teachers' recommendations, your family's situation, or anything else a counselor weighs. It cannot register you for a class, change your schedule, or commit the school to anything.

Ursa does not provide medical, mental-health, psychological, legal, or financial advice. Nothing it says is professional advice of any kind, and no relationship of that sort is created by using it.

Ursa is not an emergency or crisis service. It is not monitored. Nobody reads messages as they arrive, and nothing you write causes a counselor, a parent, or emergency services to be contacted. If you are in danger or thinking about harming yourself, call or text 988 (Suicide & Crisis Lifeline), text HOME to 741741, or call 911.

5. Accuracy, and what wins when Ursa is wrong

Ursa is built on AI models and on automatically collected copies of school web pages. Both fail in ordinary ways: a page changes and the copy goes stale, a requirement is worded ambiguously, a model states something confidently that its sources do not support.

So:

  • Verify anything that matters. Graduation requirements, course prerequisites, credit counts, deadlines, and eligibility rules should be confirmed with a EBHS counselor before you act on them.
  • The school's official information controls. Where Ursa and East Brunswick High School disagree, the school is right and Ursa is wrong, whatever Ursa cited.
  • Follow the citations. Every factual answer links its source. Opening that link is the fastest way to check.

You are responsible for decisions you make about your education. Ursa is information, not advice you can rely on.

6. No affiliation with the school

Ursa is not sponsored by, endorsed by, affiliated with, or operated on behalf of East Brunswick High School or the East Brunswick Public School District.

References to the school and quotations from its published pages are for the purpose of answering questions about it. Names, logos, and content belonging to the school or the district remain theirs. Nothing on Ursa should be read as the school's position or as speech by the school.

7. Acceptable use

Please do not:

  • try to make Ursa produce harmful, harassing, hateful, or sexual content, particularly content involving minors;
  • use Ursa to bully, impersonate, threaten, or harass anyone;
  • submit someone else's personal information;
  • attempt to bypass the sign-in gate or rate limits, probe or attack the service, or access accounts or data that are not yours;
  • scrape, resell, or redistribute Ursa's answers as a product;
  • use Ursa in a way that breaks your school's rules, including its academic integrity policy. Ursa is for finding information about the school, not for doing your coursework.

Accounts that do these things can be suspended or removed.

8. What you write, and what Ursa answers

You keep whatever you write. You grant permission to store and process it as needed to run Ursa and to answer your questions — the specifics are in the privacy policy.

Answers are generated for you and you are free to use them. They are not guaranteed to be original, correct, or unique to you; the same question may produce a different answer tomorrow.

Ursa's own code, design, name, and interface belong to its developer.

9. Availability

Ursa is offered as-is, for free, and may be slow, unavailable, changed, or discontinued at any time without notice. Features may be added or removed. Access may be limited or ended, particularly for the conduct in section 7.

You can stop using Ursa whenever you like. To delete your data, email alan.lei0409@gmail.com — see the privacy policy.

10. No warranty

Ursa is provided "as is" and "as available", without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including any implied warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, accuracy, or non-infringement.

No promise is made that Ursa will be available, error-free, secure, or correct, or that its answers reflect current school requirements.

11. Limits on liability

To the fullest extent the law allows, the operator of Ursa is not liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or for any loss arising out of your use of Ursa — including academic consequences of acting on an answer without confirming it with a counselor.

Total liability for any claim relating to Ursa will not exceed one hundred US dollars ($100).

Some jurisdictions do not allow certain limitations, so parts of this section may not apply to you. Nothing here limits liability that cannot lawfully be limited.

12. Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of the State of New Jersey, without regard to its conflict-of-law rules. Disputes will be brought in the state or federal courts located in New Jersey.

13. Changes to these terms

These terms may change. Material changes will be announced in the app before they take effect, and the date below will be updated. Continuing to use Ursa after a change means accepting the updated terms.

14. If part of this is unenforceable

If any provision is found unenforceable, the rest stays in effect and the unenforceable part is narrowed to the minimum extent necessary.
